I ran my first race of 2017 today, and I did alright. I wasn't expecting anything spectacular. I've been getting in a lot of training miles, but the extra pounds I put on late last year aren't coming off yet, so I'm heavier than I have been for any previous races. With that said, I knew I wasn't going to be setting a PR.
My optimistic goal for the race was going to be running 8:30s, but I figured it was more realistic to expect that I would start at 8:30/mile and then trail off to about 9:00/mile. Well, I never got to 8:30, but I also was never slower than 9:00. I was hoping to beat 54 minutes coming in, and sure enough, I did (by ten seconds). All in all, I had a good run.
